VALENTINO, SR., JOHNIE GRAY - Johnie Gray Valentino, Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather died peacefully at home on August 14, 2003. Johnie was born in Houston on November 2, 1922 and attended Austin High School prior to enlisting in the Army Air Corp during WWII, and serving his country as commander of a B-17 Bomber in the 8th Air Force. After WWII he returned home to begin his life's work as captain on crew boats, oil exploration ships and the commercial shrimp industry. Throughout his long boating career he was responsible for saving the lives of countless people on the waters of Galveston Bay and Gulf of Mexico.After retiring from an active role in commercial shrimping, he focused his work on the family business at Eagle Point Fishing Camp in San Leon. Johnie was the ultimate family man and was admired by all who knew him for devotion to family. Working up to the last few months of his life, Johnie leaves behind a legacy of accomplishment and hard work. He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Margie; 4 sons, Randy, John Jr. and his wife Linda, James and his wife Kelly, and Mark; 2 sisters, Lily Buchman and Hettie Dobbs; 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Friends are invited to visitation with the family Sunday, August 17, 2003 from 3-6 p.m. at Jack Rowe Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Monday, August 18, 2003 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Forest Park East Cemetery, 21620 Gulf Freeway. VETTERS, GOERGE E. (BUDDY) - Bayou Vista - George E. (Buddy) Vetters died peacefully at his home in Bayou Vista at the age of 70 on Tuesday morning December 23, 2003. He was born in Houston, September 28, 1933, son of George H. and Delia Vetters. He was confirmed in April of 1948, at St. John's Lutheran Church. After graduation from Milby High School in 1951, he was employed in the accounting department at Hughes Tool Co. while attending college. During this period he also served his country in the United States Coast Guard. In 1964 he received his BBA degree from the University of Houston. He became a partner in the firm of Hopkins, Vetters, & Palmerton, where he worked with the Howard Hughes estate until its closeout in 2001. He was in the process of retiring, having sold his firm to Harper & Pearson Co. PC. Buddy like his family, was a lifetime bowler and most recently bowled with a seniors' league at the Palace Lanes. He enjoyed traveling and fishing with his wife. He is survived by his wife, Sue Vetters, a sister, Marian Meyer and husband John, two daughters, Cindy Vetters of Houston and Valerie Vetters of Los Angeles, California, grandson Mark Vetters of Houston and a host of friends. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Friday, December 26, 2003, at the Brookside Funeral Home located at 13401 Eastex Freeway (Hwy. 59) at Lauder Road. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m., conducted by Pastor Claudio Perez. Burial will follow at the Brookside Cemetery.
