ECKEL, ANNE ELIZABETH - Anne Elizabeth Eckel died in South Texas on September 3, 2003, near Laredo. She was travelling from San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico to Austin to visit family members. Elizabeth was born May 25, 1963, at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston. She attended Trinity School, Central High School, and Ball High School in Galveston, and St. Mary's Hall in San Antonio. She graduated from S.M.U. with a bachelor's degree in communications. She later attended the New England School of Design in Boston, and worked in Boston as a graphic designer mechanical artist. S Anne Elizabeth Eckel died in South Texas on September 3, 2003, near Laredo. She was travelling from San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico to Austin to visit family members. Elizabeth was born May 25, 1963, at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston. She attended Trinity School, Central High School, and Ball High School in Galveston, and St. Mary's Hall in San Antonio. She graduated from S.M.U. with a bachelor's degree in communications. She later attended the New England School of Design in Boston, and worked in Boston as a graphic designer mechanical artist. She taught kindergarten at the Colegio Americano de Guatemala in Guatemala City, Guatemala. She returned to Texas, working as an artist/furniture designer in Houston. She moved to San Miguel de Allende, where she worked as a field agent for Casas de San Miguel. More recently she worked for four years in Houston as a relocation specialist/manager in the ExxonMobil Travel Service, specializing in obtaining long-term visas and travel permits from foreign countries for ExxonMobil personnel working overseas. Early this year, she entered into a partnership with a long-time Galveston family friend, Harris Donovan, and his wife Leslie, as well as Sylvia Herrasti, in a retail business in San Miguel de Allende, "Clandestinos," purchasing art objects and furniture from across Mexico for resale in the San Miguel store. She also continued to paint furniture with decorative scenes and designs. Elizabeth became fluent in Spanish while still a teenager, and thoroughly loved the people of Latin America, their culture and their art. J. Levy & Bro. Funeral Home

EPLEY, THOMAS K. -Texas City - Mr. Thomas K. Epley departed this life Monday, August 4, 2003, at Mainland Medical Center in Texas City. Visitation will be 6p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 7, 2003, at Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, August 8, 2003, at the La Marque Presbyterian Church with Pastor C.O. Magee, officiating. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday afternoon at the Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas. Thomas Epley was born in Brownwood, TX on May 27, 1922. He entered the service in September 1942, and served in World War II and the Korean War. He held many positions, including being rated a Command Pilot. He retired as a Lt. Colonel in the Air Force in 1965. While in the service, Mr. Epley received the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Army Occupation Medal, Medal for Humane Action, Presidential Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal and Air Force Longevity Service Award. After retirement from the Air Force, Mr. Epley received his BS in Secondary Education from Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas in 1967, and his M.Ed in 1971 from the University of Houston. Mr. Epley taught Biology and Aerospace in the LaMarque Independent School District for three years. He also worked as a real estate agent in the Texas City-LaMarque area before retiring. Mr. Epley flew P51's and P47's in World War II, while stationed at Lakenheath, England. He also flew sailplanes in Germany and Texas, and continued to fly throughout his life. He was very proud to have built an Ultralight airplane that he was able to fly on his 80th birthday in May, 2002. Mr. Epley was a member of the Galilei Masonic Lodge in Landstuhl Germany, LaMarque Presbyterian Church, Military Officers Association of America, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, National Rifle Association, United States Ultralight Association, La Marque Friends of the Library and was a Founder Member of the National Air and Space Museum. He is preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Helen Epley and sister, Virginia Epley. Mr. Epley is survived by his wife Jean, who he met and married at Ramstein Air Force Base, Germany in 1964; sons and daughters-in-law Tom and wife Kathye, of League City, John and wife Joyce and three grandchildren, April, John and Thomas, all of Glen Burnie, Maryland.
The family would like to thank Dr. David Nickeson, the nurses and staff at Mainland Center Hospital for their kindness and care during Mr. Epley's extended illness. In lieu of flowers the family would like memorials sent to LaMarque Presbyterian Church, Friends of the La Marque Library or the Lone Star Flight Museum in Galveston.

EVANS, ROSALIE - Texas City - Rosalie Evans, 100, of Texas City, passed away Thursday, August 7, 2003, at her residence. Mrs. Evans was born April 1, 1903, in Crawford, Texas to Silas B. Compton and Nancy Arabelle Compton, the seventh of nine children of these early Texas settlers. The Evans and Compton families were early pioneers of deep East Texas and founding members of the Landmark Baptist Church in Mt. Enterprise, Texas. Her father was owner and publisher of several small town Texas newspapers before establishing the family in Mt. Enterprise, Texas. As a young woman, Rosalie worked at the newspaper. She married George Evans on March 1, 1929. The couple had one child, Maxine Mize.She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, her parents, and all of her siblings except one sister, Willie Pitts, of Kerrville, Texas. Survivors include her loving daughter Maxine Mize and her five grandchildren, Nancy Burdine, George Mize, Ronnie Mize and wife Sharon, Cynthia Lee, and John Mize and wife, Holly; three great-grandchildren, Amy Burdine Mitchell and husband Shawn, Laura Lee, and Sage Mize; and great-great-granddaughter Morgan Mitchell; numerous nieces and nephews and newest friend Shirley McCardell. EZELL, JR., WILLIAM C. 'BILL' - Dickinson - William C. "Bill" Ezell, Jr., 55, of Dickinson, Texas passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2003, at Clear Lake Regional Medical Center in Webster. Mr. Ezell was born December 24, 1947, in Sinton, Texas to Nora and William C. Ezell, Sr. He served in the U S Marine Corps during the Vietnam era and worked as a barber at Pete's Barber Shop in Dickinson, Texas for over 20 years.Survivors include his wife, Elisabeth Ezell, two daughters, Monica Full and husband Aaron of Alvin and Brittany Ezell of Florida; step-daughter, Terri King of Friendswood and step-son, Lance King and wife Karan of League City; two sisters, Patricia Smith and husband Scott and Kathy McDaniels all of Odom, Texas. Also surviving are six grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. EDWARDS, FRANCIS BROOKS "LUM" - Born to Rufus and Rennie McClain Edwards on November 18, 1923, Francis Brooks "Lum" Edwards died Friday at 7:15 a.m. at The Retirement Center in Baton Rouge. He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Darrell C. Edwards and Ozell Edwards; two sisters, Glenda Chambers and Marjorie Harper; two brothers-in-law, Walter Holland and Marvin Hutchinson; and two nephews, Joey Edwards and Anthony Chambers. He is survived by his wife, Olive Jo West Edwards of Baton Rouge; two children and their spouses, Vanda Edwards-Jones and Jack Jones of San Antonio, and Greg and Angie Edwards of Baton Rouge; two grandsons and their families: Spencer and Jennifer Edwards and Maxwell Edwards of The Woodlands, TX and Warren and Paige Edwards of Humble Texas; He is also survived by his beloved sister, Allene Holland; three dear brothers and their wives Joe and Quinny Edwards, Rhonnie Edwards, and Gaylon and Lela Edwards; brother-in-law Henry Chambers; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
After serving as a squad leader for the 80th Tank Battalion attached to Patton's Third Army during World War II, he settled in Texas City, Texas and began his civilian career as a towboat captain. He retired from Monsanto Chemical Company and moved to Lone Star, Texas in 1986, and then to Baton Rouge in 2004. He was a 51 year member of the Grand Lodge of Texas and was a member of First Baptist Church in Baton Rouge at the time of his death.
Services will be held at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton, TX on Tuesday, April 15, 2008. Visitation is scheduled from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m., with the funeral service in the chapel at 11:00 and burial immediately following in the Haven of Memories. The funeral will be conducted by Dr. Burn Page, Pastor of First Baptist Church in Baton Rouge. Pallbearers, attending and honorary, will be his nephews: Harold Edwards, Jeff Edwards, Rodney Edwards, Robert Edwards, Rufus Chambers, Jason Chambers, Jon Chambers, Jimmy Edwards, Ben Edwards, Jeremy Edwards, Gaylon Ozell Edwards, and Tracy Edwards.
