GEORGE, WAYNE PIRKLE Houston - Wayne Pirkle George, 76, died suddenly Sunday evening of a heart attack. Wayne was a long time resident of Avondale Addition in the Montrose section of Houston and grew up near downtown Houston after being born in Shreveport, Louisiana. The people most beloved to Wayne who currently survive is his brother Donald George of Waskom, Texas; his two surrogate children and their spouses--Ben Hill and his wife Carol Hill of Norfolk, Virginia, and Dorothy Marie Dehnert and her husband Larry Dehnert of Kingwood, and his second beloved partner in life, Richard W. Cotton, of Houston. There are many other close friends in Houston and Galveston who met him in his businesses and neighborhood associations who came to know and love him.Wayne served in the Army honorably for four years as a corpsman, stationed at Fort Ord, California. Shortly after the war, he studied photography in New York City. For forty-seven productive years Wayne entrepreneured in upholstery, decorating, renovation, real estate, and antique businesses until James Cade, his beloved friend and partner of the same period of time, passed away in 1995. Wayne, throughout life, was an avid collector who enjoyed beauty in antiquities and plants, and shared much of himself with others by investing his last precious four and a half years with Richard Cotton and by creating and managing the Blvd. Saloon in Galveston, Texas. Wayne George's body ceased living last Sunday, but loving memories of the many that he touched in his lifetime live on in sweet sorrow of his body's passing, while Wayne's essence of goodness lives on in many people whose lives he has touched: those of us who love him dearly continue to live with Wayne's essence of beauty and truth. A memorial service will be held at eleven (11) a.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2003, in the main chapel room of Forest Park--Lawndale Cemetery. Casual Dress is adequate. Galveston residents exit and go right on Wayside off I-45 to Lawndale and right again to the cemetery. A Celebration of Wayne's Life is scheduled at the Blvd. Saloon, 3102 Seawall Blvd., Galveston, at three 3 p.m. Sunday, August 17, 2003. The public is invited.
