TREVATHAN, HERBERT D. "HERB" - San Antonio - Mr. Herbert D. "Herb" Trevathan, 70, died Wednesday, August 13, 2003, as a result of an automobile/motorcycle accident in Berryville, Arkansas. Herb was born in Lufkin, Texas, was a resident and business owner in Galveston County for over 40 years and was currently living in San Antonio. Herb owned and operated the first Kubota tractor dealership in the Houston area in the early 60's, was co-owner and operator of Al Lockley Trailers on the Gulf Freeway and until his retirement in 2000, owned Propane and Sales in Santa Fe. Herb was a member of Midway Church of Christ in Santa Fe, was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and a former alderman on the Tiki Island Village Council. Predeceased by his father, Vernon D. Trevathan and mother Anice Powell Trevathan, Herb is survived by his wife, Linda Kostelnik Trevathan; three daughters, Rustyann Brown and her husband, Rodney of Montana, Dusty Bernhard and her husband, David of San Antonio and Andy Morton of San Antonio; step-son, Jerry A. Callaway and his wife, Michele of Friendswood; brother and sister-in-law, John E. and Anne Trevathan of Galveston; sisters and brothers–in-law, Verna Ann and Rutherford Hayes of San Antonio and Clara and James Bodhaine of Houston; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, August 22, 2003, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home with Mr. Russell McLaughlin officiating. TREYBIG, CALVIN 'COTTON' - Texas City - Calvin "Cotton" Treybig, 78, of Texas City passed away Thursday, October 16, 2003, in Webster, Texas. He was born November 26, 1924, in Fayette County, Texas to Adlaie and Edna Treybig. He was a barber for fifty-one years and partner at Cotton and Bert's Barber Shop in Texas City. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II in the 1st Cavalry Division, member of the VFW Post 6113 in Columbus and a member of the Memorial Lutheran Church in Texas City. TYLER, JOHN WINFRED - La Marque - John Winfred Tyler, a longtime resident of Baytown and Sugarland, died Tuesday evening, August 5, 2003, in the presence of family at the Laurel House care home in La Marque. He had just turned 90. He was a loving father and husband, a veteran of World War II, an executive for the S. S. Kresge Co. for 42 years, and an active member of the Catholic church and Knights of Columbus. A lifelong golfer, he served in his later years as course marshal at Sugar Creek Country Club, retiring at 80. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, on July 22, 1913, as the eldest of four children of Arthur and Mary Tyler, "Jack" Tyler joined the S. S. Kresge Co. as a stock clerk at 17, and worked at the company for more than four decades, rising to be store manager and district manager for the retail chain that became K-mart. He interrupted his career to serve in the Army during World War II, participating in the liberation of Europe and the Battle of the Bulge as a Technical Sergeant in the Fourth Armored Division. A devout Catholic, he was active in youth education for the Houston-Galveston Diocese and worked as a church fundraiser throughout his life. On May 17, 1939, he married Lorayne Knight of St. Louis, and Jack and Lorayne spent 57 loving years raising a family of five children as Jack's career developed at stores across the Midwest, Texas, and South Carolina, where he retired in 1978. Lorayne preceded him, dying on March 3, 1997, in Sugarland. He is survived by his five children: John W. Tyler, Jr., of Trinidad, Texas; Susan C. Tyler, of La Marque; Jill A. Gresham, of Centerville, Texas; Michael T. Tyler, of Galveston; and Patrick E. Tyler, of Washington, D.C.; eight grandchildren: Wendy K. Schlueter, Elizabeth A. Tyler, Tyler L. Langenkamp, Timothy C. Langenkamp, Clinton W. Brown, Daniel H. Brown, Silas O. Tyler, and Landry D. Tyler; and seven great grandchildren. The family will receive visitors from 5 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., Thursday, August 7, 2003, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home in Galveston. A rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. Funeral mass will be 10 a.m., Friday, August 8, 2003, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in La Marque. Burial will be in Centerville, Texas.
